The Common App is OPEN for Business!

The Common App is OPEN for business! I’ve completed the portions to test them. There are many various approaches to sum up a task in no more than 150 characters. And even when a question seems to be as simple as possible, you must respond in a way that reveals a part of who you are. I am a master in turning the Common App into your very own masterpiece, complete with flavor, character, and passion.

Any college application, including the Common App, is essentially a blank slate that may be filled up hastily and carelessly or may be the most accurate and thorough illustration of the applicant. I have guided my students in the Class of 2023 through each area of the Common App. Here is a sample of what I told them:

1. With your parents, complete the "Profile" and "Family" information.

There will be inquiries regarding your place of birth, the college your parents attended, their graduation dates, and even their formal employment positions. You'll be shocked by how much information about your parents and yourself you don't know. Make sure you have the correct dates and fill it out completely.

2. If necessary, fill out the "Education," "Testing," and "Courses and Grades" sections with your official transcripts and score reports nearby.

One small error in how you represent your GPA, rank, grades, classes, or scores might result in a denial or the cancellation of an admissions acceptance. Double-check all of the information you input.

3. Provide evidence for every claim you make.

Colleges are more likely to check applications or specific items included in the application since the admissions crisis occurred a few years ago to ensure authenticity and honesty on the side of the student.

4. Give careful consideration to the list of extracurricular activities; it is far more significant than any résumé you include.

Admissions officers frequently only look at this list; they very rarely have the time or desire to review a résumé that is attached. The way you describe your activities for college applications is just as important as what you do.

5. If you want to be taken seriously by any college, optional essays are necessary in my opinion.

Any college application, including the Common App, has the potential to be a vehicle for uniqueness and introspection. Use it to differentiate yourself and stand out from the other applicants. And, I'm always here to help you.
